Our Christmas Opening Times: Please Order Prescriptions Early

The festive season is a busy time for everyone – including GP surgeries. A little planning now can help make sure you stay well over Christmas and New Year.

Your Christmas list is probably already pretty long, but there’s one key item we’d love you to add: ordering your prescriptions early.

Our Opening Times

Order Prescriptions Early

The quickest and easiest way to request a repeat prescription is with the NHS App.

At normal times, we ask you to allow at least three full working days from request to collection. Over the Christmas period, please order as early as possible.

You can request a prescription in the NHS App at any time – even when we are closed. It only takes a few taps:

  1. Open the NHS App and make sure you are logged in.
  2. Tap ‘Repeat Prescriptions’ on the home Check or change your nominated pharmacy if needed.
  3. Tap ‘Continue’.
  4. Select the medicines you want to request.
  5. Tap ‘Continue’ again.
  6. Check the details and tap ‘Request prescription’.

It’s quick and easy – ordering prescriptions through the app saves you time and helps us too, so please use it if you can.

Pharmacy Opening Times

Some community pharmacists may have different opening times over the Bank Holidays. Always check your pharmacists opening times before setting off to collect your prescription.

Pharmacists can also help with a range of everyday illnesses, no appointment needed – Think Pharmacy First.

Here’s are some Pharmacists who will be open over the festive season in our area.

Collect Prescriptions from Pharmacy with the NHS App

If you’ve reordered a prescription through the NHS App, you can generate a barcode to collect it from any pharmacy.

This is perfect if:

  • You couldn’t collect it from your usual pharmacy, or
  • You’re away visiting friends or family.

How to generate your prescription barcode:

  1. Open the NHS App and make sure you are logged in.
  2. On the home screen, tap ‘View and manage prescriptions’.
  3. Tap ‘Your confirmed prescriptions’.
  4. Select ‘View Prescription’.
  5. Tap ‘Prescription barcode’.

Getting the NHS App on your Phone

The NHS App is available on iOS and Android. Anyone registered with GP and aged 13 or older can use it. Find out more about who can use the NHS App.

Accessing the NHS App on a Computer

You can also use NHS App services from a desktop or laptop browser.

This is a great option if:

  • You don’t have a smartphone, or
  • You don’t have access to UK app stores (for example, if your phone was registered in another country).

Using the NHS App services in your browser allows you to manage prescriptions, appointments, and other NHS services just like you would on the app.
