Keeping safe as the temperature rises 🥵
While it’s not quite as hot in the North East as other parts of the country, temperatures of 29°C in Newcastle are still enough to make us feel unwell if we’re not careful.
Even short spells of warm weather can affect your health, especially if you are not used to it.
Here are some tips to enjoy the weather safely, whether you’re around the Toon or elsewhere this week.
☀️ Stay cool
- Stay out of sun 11am–3pm
- Sit in shade where possible
- Wear light clothing
- Use SPF 30+
💧 Drink plenty of water
- Sip water regularly
- Don’t wait until thirsty
- Limit alcohol
🏠 Keep your home cool
- Close curtains in sunny rooms
- Open windows when cooler
- Use a fan if needed
🌡️ Heat exhaustion
- Headache, dizziness
- Tiredness or feeling sick
- Heavy sweating
Move to a cool place, rest, and drink water.
🚨 Heatstroke
- Confusion or collapse
