Last 10 Days for Merger Feedback

Our engagement programme about the proposed merger of Jesmond Health Partnership and Gosforth Memorial is entering its final stages.

Patients and stakeholders have just ten days left to make sure their views are included in our full application to the North East and North Cumbria NHS.

Submissions from patients and stakeholders received by 19th January will be included in our submission. You are welcome to continue to share your views with us after that date, but these will not be included in our final merger application.

Your Feedback so far

Since announcing the proposed merger in November, more than 200 patients from both practices have shared their views. Around 70 people attended our drop-in events in Gosforth and Jesmond in December and this past weekend.

So far, 94% of people, having read the information we provided, understand the reasons for the proposed merger.

You have told us that a quick solution to your issue is your number one priority, followed by a choice of appointment times and seeing the same Nurse or Doctor.

Your biggest concerns have been around being seen ‘on the day’ and worries about having to travel from Gosforth to Jesmond, or vice versa, for regular appointments.

Our original announcement, FAQs, and updated answers were clear that we will continue to provide the same level of service from all 4 locations (GMMC on Church Road, and JHP’s 17 and 200 Osborne Road and 5 Osborne Avenue).

Patients won’t be forced to travel from one location (Gosforth or Jesmond) to the other for an appointment, but it may be that an appointment is available more quickly elsewhere. Seeing patients on the day they request help will continue to be our priority, based on your individual needs and our capacity.

Personal Comments and Zero Tolerance

One final point on a small amount of strongly-worded, highly personal comments we have received.

As mentioned, we have received hundreds of comments, and we want patients to freely share their views with us. Questions, comments, criticism and even complaints are an important part of how we measure our performance and maintain our standards.

But there is a line between genuine concerns or constructive criticism and personal comments that call into question or attack the motivations, professionalism or character of individuals involved in running the two practices.

We would remind patients of both practices’ Zero Tolerance policy and, as we work hard to put patients first, the need to treat NHS staff with dignity and respect.
