High Volume of Requests – Submit Your Repeat Prescriptions Early

We are very busy at the moment. In particular, we are receiving a high number of prescription requests.

Our team is working hard to process every request safely and as quickly as we can. However, the large volume means it is taking longer than usual.

Many of the requests we are getting are last minute. This includes prescriptions where the medication has already run out, or will run out just before a holiday.

To help us – and to avoid stress for you – please plan ahead.

We ask patients to allow three full working days from the time you request your prescription to the time you collect it. If you can give us more notice, that is even better. Extra time is especially important if:

  • It is the last prescription in a batch.
  • A medication review is needed before we can reissue it.

Ordering early helps make sure you do not miss any doses.

The quickest way to order

The fastest and easiest way to request a repeat prescription is by using the NHS App.

It only takes a few seconds. You can use it at any time of day. You do not need to call the practice.

If you are going away, you can use the NHS App to generate a barcode. This lets you collect your prescription from a different pharmacy if needed.

You can find step-by-step instructions and a short video guide on our website.

Pharmacy First – help without a GP appointment

Your local pharmacy can help with many common health problems. You do not always need to see a GP first.

Pharmacists can supply some medicines, including the contraceptive pill, without a GP appointment.

Through the NHS Pharmacy First service, pharmacists can assess and treat:

  • Earache or ear infections in children aged 1 to 17.
  • Skin infections such as impetigo in patients aged 1 and over.
  • Infected insect bites in patients aged 1 and over.
  • Shingles in adults aged 18 and over.
  • Sinus infections in patients aged 12 and over.
  • Sore throats in children aged 5 and over and adults.
  • Simple urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women aged 16 to 64.

Pharmacists are trained healthcare professionals. They can give advice, treatment and reassurance quickly, often on the same day.

Thank you for planning ahead and helping us keep our services running smoothly for everyone.
