Everyone aged 18 and over can now get a covid-19 vaccination.

Vaccines are our best route out of the pandemic, and so far nearly 77million doses have been given in the UK. Nearly half of the adult population are now fully vaccinated, with the second doses bring stronger and longer lasting protection.

Vaccines are safe, free and available to everyone. If you haven’t yet got vaccinated or made a plan to do so, here is what you need to know.

About the vaccines

All available covid-19 vaccines are safe. They go through several stages of clinical trials before being approved. As with all vaccines, there is a chance of side effects. For most people these will be mild and pass quickly. Serious side effects are extremely rare.

When you book your appointment, you will be given the best type for you age group and medical history.

Full information on the different types of vaccine and side effects can be found here.

Where can I get vaccinated?

You have a choice of venues and times across Newcastle. Our interactive map below shows each location and what you need to do.

Appointments are Community Pharmacies and large vaccination sites can be booked in advance by calling 119 or by using the National Booking System.

There are also drop-in vaccination clinics – the ‘pop up at the Centre for Life in the city centre, and the Vaccine Outreach Bus which will move across different parts of the city. No appointment is necessary.

The Pop Up service at Times Square is a drop-in service, just turn up, grab a ticket and queue for your vaccine.

There are 500 vaccines a day available and the service is up and running 4 days a week.

Limited tickets are available in three slots during the day. Once the tickets for that time have gone you will need to wait for the next slot. Tickets are issued on a first come first serve basis.

You will need to bring ID to confirm your name and age.
