At the time of writing, there is no change to vaccine eligibility from last week’s update.
Everyone in priority groups 1 to 11 will have at least been invited to book an appointment, if not yet received one or both vaccine doses.
You are eligible to get a vaccination if any of these apply:
- you’re aged 30 or over
- you’ll turn 30 before 1 July 2021
- you’re at high risk from COVID-19 (clinically extremely vulnerable)
- you have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
- you have a learning disability
- you’re a frontline health or social care worker
- you get a Carer’s Allowance, get support following an assessment by your local authority or your GP record shows you’re a carer
You can book online through the NHS Vaccination website here.
Most people under 40 will be offered either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines due to the link with the AstraZeneca vaccine and rare blood clots. Guidance on the AstraZeneca vaccine can be found here.
The total of first doses has now passed 40 million, with 27.6 million people having had the full course of two jabs. The latest figures can be found on the Government vaccine dashboard.
The national booking system has appointments at the mass vaccinations sites – the nearest being Centre for Life in Newcastle and Newcastle Eagles (details in our vaccines FAQ). You will be able to book your first and second vaccination appointments at the same time.
If you cannot book online, we’d ask patients to call the national booking line directly on 119, rather than calling the practice.
Bringing forward second vaccines
Patients in priority groups 1-9 – those 50 or over or with health conditions – now have the option to bring their second jab forward to 8 weeks rather than 12.
To do this, patients will need to book a second appointment via the national booking system at this link.
If you are unable to book through the system, please email Newcastle GP Services (NGPS), who are coordinating vaccinations across the city, at ngps.covidvaccination@nhs.net including your name, date of birth, contact number, date of first vaccine, original second dose booking appointment and type of first vaccine.
You will need to enter your details, including your NHS number and date of your first vaccination, then choose your preferred location and date.
